| NYC Independent Media Center From 2000-2003 i worked as a designer, IT specialist, meeting facilitator, event coordinator, website editor, and infrequent journalist at the NYC Independent Media Center (IMC) on Park Ave and 29th. Shown here are three sites that i designed and help code for the NYC IMC. NYC.Indymedia.org My first attempt at web design and html coding, this site became the public face of the NYC IMC for three years, from 2000-2003. F15: NYC IMC Protest Website I designed this protest site for the massive anti-war rally against the Iraq war in NYC on Febuary 15, 2003. The NYC IMC was the hub of protest information. As hundreds of people called into the office from the street, NYC IMC web radio broadcasted updates to the rest of the world, and web editors uploaded minute by minute updates to the site. I did the design and html for this site and Mike Castleman (currently of Democracy Now!) coded the back end. M22: NYC IMC Protest Website We posted a similar site for the following anti-war protest in March 2003. This time people could sign up for breaking news SMS updates to their phone, a very early public instance of this technology. Some say a first!. A 10,000 copy print run of the Indypendent, the news paper of the NYC IMC was also made and distributed during the protest. |
